The change of coat in dogs is a natural adaptation phase that can last up to eight weeks. To maintain the health of the skin and coat, regular coat care and a balanced diet are particularly important. The right brushes and grooming products, as well as supplementation with high-quality oils or nutritional supplements, help with this.

During the shedding season the dog’s body performs at its peak by producing a large amount of new hair. Some dogs may seem a little calmer or more tired than usual. Itching, flaky skin and tangles in the coat can also occur. That is why regular and gentle coat care is especially important during this time.
On this page I have put together helpful tips on how you can support your dog with the right grooming during shedding season.

Shedding is regulated by hormones and triggered by changes in daylight and temperature.
Dogs with a particularly thick winter coat often need help to shed their dense undercoat. Without regular grooming, dead hairs can form thick mats that block air circulation to the skin. These mats can create the perfect environment for parasites and bacteria.
A dog’s coat is made up of different types of hair: guard hairs and undercoat. Guard hairs are relatively long and coarse, forming the outer layer of the coat. In contrast, undercoat hairs are finer and softer. As the name suggests, they make up the dense insulating layer beneath the topcoat. Some dogs grow an undercoat with thousands of hairs per square centimetre – essentially wearing a thick winter coat.
Regular brushing helps to prevent matting in the topcoat and removes dead hairs and everyday dirt trapped in the coat. This kind of buildup can become a breeding ground for pathogens. Brushing your dog can help lower the risk of skin issues caused by parasites or infections that might otherwise go unnoticed.
